830-10PM, Pier 40. Who’s in?

I am told the 030s will be attending in numbers as they have an important match upcoming this next weekend. There will be 20-30 minutes of set piece practice (something we could all use), followed by a full-field scrimmage, FYI.

A 2pm game out at the shitty Verrazano fields found the CPR Reds ready to take flight against FC Japan in what would surely be a scrappy game. Whichever team was willing to outwork the other would find themselves the winner of this match as skill was quickly thrown out the window. After a few weak chances on both ends the referee (same one that refereed the France Ireland match actually) Missed 2 blatant handballs and an offsides that allowed FC Jappos to get in behind the defense, a brilliant save by Eric kept the match scoreless. A CPR counter attack found defenseman John Porges and Nikle Guzijan leading the CPR offense down the field, who was covering for them in the back is not important. Porges broke down the left side of the 18 and centered  a pass that found Guzijans feet near the penalty spot. In the most unselfish manner he calmly played a ball back to Midfielder Zach Kelly to bury home and the Reds were up 1-0. We weren’t up 1-0 for long when the drama started to pour in. The Japanese soon ambushed us again through the middle, this time the forward tripped over the ball, fell outside the box, and a penalty was awarded. Team psycho John Porges would not let the penalty be taken and made sure the referee knew how wrong he was. A still photograph was taken at the scene.

After issuing 58 Yellow Cards to the entire CPR roster, the ref soon forgot he called a PK, or feared for his life, and awarded a free kick just outside the box. It was shanked and the score remained 1-0. It remained that way into half time.

2nd half saw more of the same scrappy first half play and Ciaran unable to time a header. A free kick was awarded about 10 minutes into the half where Ilija stepped up and did only what Ilija is sometimes capable of doing. A low driven shot into the bottom left side netting as the keeper was still organizing his wall, and the Reds were up 2-0. A late goal was given up by the CPR defense on purpose to ensure keeper Eric Wunsch’s unhappiness. The reds keep climbing the leader board as they leave FC Japan crying back in Brooklyn.
